Places to Visit in Buenos Aires: The Butcher Shop edit

Check out "A Tasty Video from Argentina: How to make empanadas"

Belg_10 Argentina is well known internationally for the incomparable quality of their beef. During my last trip to Buenos Aires I had the opportunity to visit a butcher shop and they were so kind as to show me the facilities, inspect the different meat cuts and interview the man in charge.

It was there were I took this short video. It is in Spanish, so you will have a chance to practice this beautiful language. If it seems a little dark, its only because we were in the fridge were they store the meat. If you do not see me, it is because I was holding the camera! But, by now I guess you are getting used to hearing my voice. My friends and relatives laugh because they noticed an unusual accent in my voice...I pick up accents right away, so after a couple of days in Argentina, I was dancing with words...the way they do it.

Car_5 One very important fact I learned that day is that all the beef they eat comes from caws 4-5 years old. The tenderness of the meat is a product of the diet and not because of the age of the animal. It is forbidden by law to eat veal, what makes me wonder how tender and delicate that meat would be.

The piece of meat held by the young butcher in the second photo is known as "Matambre." A literal translation  means "hunger killer." It is cooked in water for long hours until tender and then it is rolled like a jelly-roll and stuffed with veggies. The result is a beautiful roll, colorful, with a mild flavor. It is sold already prepared at the supermarkets and delicatessens.

Have a delicious week!

A tasty video from Argentina: Making Empanadas edit

We've got a treat for you today! The first video was taken at the San Pedro de Yacochuya Winery in Cafayate, Salta, Argentina. I have written a little about this fantastic winery and you are invited to learn about it HERE. Our hostess, Ma. Cecilia de Etchart, is an extra charming wonder woman. Not only does she takes care of the PR of this winery, traditionally known for the excellence of its wines. She also is the mother of two beautiful babies.

The empanadas prepared in this mud oven were part of the delicious lunch we enjoyed at the Etchart family house. They were not only yummy, but beautiful and so fragrant.  I Do not even recall how many I had! LOL!

The second bonus video was taken when we were in our way to visit the Iguazu Falls (Cataratas del Iguazu), in Argentina. The video is an aerial view from our plane. If this doesn't seduce you to go to this beautiful country, I do not know what would do it. Well, anyhow...I'll keep trying.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Places to Visit in Buenos Aires: Belgrano Market edit

Dsc03331 I was lucky enough to have Sonia Belostotzky as my guide in Buenos Aires. She organized a very interesting tour of the most colorful Markets, bakeries, butcher shops and other locations just for foodies. Next time you visit the city of "Good Airs," Buenos Aires, send me a mail and I'll be happy to provide you her contact information.

Although Argentina is mostly known for the great wines and scrumptious meats, I would say their culture in its totality is an ongoing worshipness to all things edible. No doubt is the land of the gourmets, and the perfect place to explore, and learn.

Enjoy the photos!
